All the foods that could be impacted by Donald Trump's latest tariff rollback

Donald Trump announced he would be lowering tariffs on one country

Donald Trump’s tariff rollback could affect some food and its prices, potentially leaving some people pretty happy.

Trump’s tariffs have been a sore topic for many nations after the POTUS implemented strict, and often times high, taxes on goods outside of the US.

Whether it’s imported materials or food, the whole idea was created to make an America-first stance and persuade consumers to shop locally.

But recently, Trump announced that he has changed the tariffs (again), but this time he has aimed it at Brazilian goods, which impacts four different foods.

So, what products will be impacted?

What food is impacted by Donald Trump’s tariff change?

For those in the US, they’ll likely benefit from cheaper snacks and meals after Trump said he was given ‘information and recommendations’ from officials which led to him believing ‘certain agricultural products shall not be subject to the additional ad valorem rate of duty.’

As for what those are, it includes beef, coffee, fruit and cocoa.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in 2023, ‘about 80% of U.S. unroasted coffee imports came from Latin America, principally from Brazil (35%) and Colombia (27%).’

It’s safe to say that Brazil - and the US public - might be saving some pennies thanks to the new Thursday 20 November order.

What did Donald Trump say about the tariffs?

In his statement about Brazil and its tariffs, Trump claimed he had created an executive order on 30 July which would implement additional tariffs on goods imported from the nation after the ‘actions of the Government of Brazil constitute an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States’.

He added: "I determined that it was necessary and appropriate to impose an additional ad valorem duty rate of 40% on certain articles of Brazil."

However, after talks with Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, things have eased up.

“Today I am happy because President Trump has already begun to reduce some of the distortions they had made to some Brazilian products,” Lula said.

“And these things will happen as we manage to gain people’s respect. Nobody respects those who don’t respect themselves.”

What else has Donald Trump changed?

Just last week, Trump also went on to share how 200 food products, including coffee, beef, and orange juice and certain fruits from other nations shall be freed from the hefty tariffs.

The Trump administration announced that it will also eliminate tariffs on certain foods and other imports from nations like Argentina, Ecuador, Guatemala and El Salvador too, per Reuters.
