President Donald Trump's diet has been well documented throughout the years, and he's regularly maintained that the has great shape for his age.
In recent months, the US president’s health has increasingly come under speculation after the president was spotted with a 'large bruise' on his hand earlier last year, which his team seemingly attempted to cover up with what appeared to be massive amounts of makeup.
Trump’s health rumours
Trump was also diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), a condition which happens when the veins in a person’s leg become damaged and can’t work as they should.
On New Year's Day, The Wall Street Journal released a report on the president called ‘As Signs of Aging Emerge, Trump Responds With Defiance’.

Within it, Trump claimed he has ‘perfect health’ and denies that he is losing his energy as he grows older, something he previously did (albeit a little more harshly) when the New York Times wrote in a recent piece that Trump is showing 'signs of fatigue' and is facing the 'realities of aging in office'.

To this, Trump called the reporter 'ugly' on social media.
What does Trump eat?
He has maintained for some time that his health is top notch, and often talks about how well he performs on his health check-ups, but claims his diet hasn't changed as he ages - despite some of the aspects that might make a nutritionist wince.

The Journal delved into an October 2025 podcast interview with Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters, who revealed how he was shocked during the campaign trail in 2024 by what Trump was eating.
Gruters claimed Trump had ‘hot fries waiting for him from McDonald’s. Then he had a Filet-O-Fish, a Quarter Pounder and a Big Mac.’
He went on to share: “I think he combined two of them."
The high-calorie order is no surprise, after it was previously shared in a 2017 expose by two former aides, David Bossie and Corey Lewandowski, called Let Trump Be Trump.

In their book, the pair said the POTUS would order ‘two Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fish and a chocolate malted’, adding: "On Trump Force One, there were four major food groups: McDonald’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken, pizza and Diet Coke."
In February 2016 with Anderson Cooper, Trump revealed why he likes the fast food giant.
"I’m a very clean person. I like cleanliness," he said. "And I think you’re better off going there than someplace that you maybe have no idea where the food is coming from. It’s a certain standard. But I think the food is good."

What has Trump said about his health?
Trump told the Journal he is in 'perfect' health, saying the large dose of aspirin is the cause behind him bruising so easily.

He claimed doctors have suggested he take a lower dose, but he is 'a little superstitious'.
“They say aspirin is good for thinning out the blood, and I don’t want thick blood pouring through my heart,” Trump said.
“I want nice, thin blood pouring through my heart. Does that make sense?”
After the report was published, he took to Truth Social to share the results of recent health examinations.

He wrote: "The White House Doctors have just reported that I am in 'PERFECT HEALTH,' and that I 'ACED' (Meaning, was correct on 100% of the questions asked!), for the third straight time, my Cognitive Examination, something which no other President, or previous Vice President, was willing to take.
"P.S., I strongly believe that anyone running for President, or Vice President, should be mandatorily forced to take a strong, meaningful, and proven Cognitive Examination. Our great Country cannot be run by 'STUPID' or INCOMPETENT PEOPLE! President DJT."
Trump has also revealed that he isn’t a fan of sleeping or exercise, despite being the oldest POTUS to take office at 78 years old.
Instead, he prefers to golf and takes rosuvastatin and ezetimibe to control his cholesterol and then mometasone cream to treat a skin condition, per his doctor in April.
Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, Trump’s doctor, said the president uses his aspirin for ‘cardiac prevention’, per the report.
He said Trump takes 325mg of aspirin a day, which is a lot more than a low dose of 81mg, per the Mayo Clinic.
“They’d rather have me take the smaller one,” Trump has previously said of his aspirin intake. “I take the larger one, but I’ve done it for years, and what it does do is it causes bruising.”
