Inside Melania Trump's diet including one US chain she avoids

The fizzy drink is also a firm favourite of another famous person in the FLOTUS' family

Melania Trump’s diet may be nutritious and somewhat health-conscious - but that does not stop her from indulging in squares of chocolate, ice cream, and fizzy drinks from time to time.

By following a balanced diet, you are providing your body with the essential nutrients to function properly.

The NHS explains that a healthy day on our plates consists of at least five portions of fruits and vegetables, dairy, protein, unsaturated oils, and starchy foods like potatoes, bread, rice or pasta.

One person who religiously eats more than the required amount of fruit is Melania Trump, First Lady of the United States.

The 55-year-old has offered countless updates about what she eats over the years, including what famous fizzy drink she and both her husband, President Donald Trump, 79, have a penchant for.

Melania Trump eats lots of fruit, vegetables, and drinks smoothies

Apparently big on fruit, the mother-of-one tends to have seven portions of fruit per day, as reported by The Takeout.

This includes everything from berries to apples and peaches.

But she doesn’t just eat them as they come; she’s apparently a keen juicer and a smoothie maker too.

Back in 2013, Melania shared her go-to smoothie recipe, consisting of organic spinach, celery, carrots, blueberries, apple, orange juice, lemon juice, and fat-free yogurt.

To finish, she added olive oil, flax seeds, omega-3, and vitamin D. Unfortunately, the FLOTUS didn’t share exact amounts, so you may have to guess if you want to micmic!

When it comes to veggies, she apparently eats everything but onions and artichokes, as revealed on an episode of Martha Stewart’s titular show in 2005.

Like many Europeans and United States citizens alike, Melania loves a good caffeinated beverage.

In a previous interview with DuJour, she revealed what coffee brand she turns her nose up at: Starbucks.

“I drink coffee, but I don’t drink Starbucks. My son likes it, the what do you call it? The Frappuccino? He likes that,” she said, referring to her and Donald Trump’s 19-year-old son, Barron Trump.

According to the British Heart Foundation, drinking coffee in the mornings could reduce the risk of dying from a heart attack or stroke by almost a third, while Johns Hopkins Medicine said consumption may help reduce the risk of Parkinson's and colon cancer.

Melania Trump’s favourite drink may not surprise you

What do the rich and famous drink? Well, it appears in Melania’s case, it’s exactly the same thing that many of us normal folk reach for at 3pm: a crisp Diet Coke.

In an interview with New York Magazine, she revealed her favourite kind was from the classic glass bottles.

Interestingly, she shares the affinity for the carbonated beverage with her husband, President Trump.

His love for the drink is well documented, with Business Insider revealing he guzzled 12 cans of the stuff on a daily basis during his first reign in office.

Upon his return to the White House, he allegedly reinstalled a ‘Diet Coke Button’ in the Oval Office, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The Coca-Cola company CEO, James Quince, has also previously gifted Trump a commemorative bottle with a White House label on it.

As well as indulging in bottles of the good stuff, Melania swears by drinking enough water every day to keep her hydrated and avoiding alcohol where possible, as per The Take Out.

The FLOTUS doesn’t always say no to a sweet treat

Everything is good in moderation, that’s why Melania will often nibble on dark chocolate or indulge in the occasional ice cream.

"If I would snack, I would snack on maybe fruit or a little bit of chocolate," she once admitted to Refinery29.

According to a report by Inside Edition, if the former model does decide to dip into something sweet, she remains conscious of its portion size.

Adult women are advised to have no more than 25 grams (6 teaspoons) of added sugar every day, according to the American Heart Association.

Where Melania Trump eats in New York

If she’s not enjoying a home-cooked meal, then you may find Melania in one of two New York City eateries.

The first is Jean-Georges at the Trump International Hotel, where the chicken parmesan is allegedly her repeat order, the report claimed.

Another of her alleged favourite haunts is Ralph Lauren's Polo Bar, situated on 55th Street.

The eatery serves seasonal American classics like lobster rolls, burgers, and steaks.

One place you probably won’t ever catch the politician's wife, though, is a sushi bar, The Take Out confessed.

In her 2024 self-titled memoir, Melania confirmed she does not eat raw fish.

During her 2019 visit to Japan, the Imperial Palace prepared a six-course meal, blending Western and Japanese dishes without raw fish to accommodate her preference.
