Actress Margot Robbie said a male actor once gifted her a book on ‘eating less’ in the early days of her career.
The 35-year-old has spent the last couple of months promoting Wuthering Heights, director Emerald Fennell’s version of Emily Brontë’s iconic novel.
Robbie is playing Catherine ‘Cathy’ Earnshaw, the original occupier of the Wuthering Heights estate, which falls into the hands of Heathcliffe, a surly anti-hero who is adopted as a youngster by Cathy’s parents, Mr and Mrs Earnshaw.
Euphoria’s Jacob Elordi, 28, is starring as the 2026 version of Heathcliffe, following in the footsteps of Tom Hardy, James Howson, and Ralph Fiennes, among others.

While Elordi and Robbie have been doing the majority of press together, the moment where the Barbie actress discussed the ‘diet book’ she had been given took place with singer Charli XCX.

The latter, whose real name is Charlotte Emma Aitchison, was recruited by Fennell, 40, to create the Wuthering Heights soundtrack.
In an interview with Complex, Robbie and the singer were asked to answer a series of questions about their ‘worsts’ and ‘bests’.
When asked to reveal the worst gifts she had ever received, the mother-of-one began: "Very, very early in my career, an actor I worked with, a male actor, gave me a book called Why French Women Don't Get Fat, and it was essentially a book telling you to eat less."

Robbie failed to name and shame, but added: "I was like, woah, f*** you dude."
The ‘House’ hitmaker asked whether the man was still in showbusiness, to which the actor replied: "No, that was a - I have no idea where he would even be now, this was really back in the day."
"Yeah, your career's over babe," laughed Charli XCX
Robbie added: "He essentially gave me a book to let me know that I should lose weight, I was like wow."
The book was Why French Women Don't Get Fat, written by Mireille Guiliano, which was released in 2006.

It is described as a way to ‘unlock the simple secrets of 'the French paradox' - how to enjoy food and stay slim and healthy’.
It’s description reads: "Classy, chic and expertly well-written, this is the book that we have all been waiting for. It's the ultimate non-diet book; instead, showing how to eat with balance, control and above all pleasure. Eat, like a French woman."
Robbie’s gift confession comes amid her recent appearance on the Table Manners podcast with musician Jessie Ware and her mother, Lennie Ware.
During the podcast, the Australian admitted that she made nachos by covering a tray in tin foil, pouring Doritos onto it, and topping the dish with baked beans and cheese.
She called the nostalgic dish ‘bogan nachos’ and admitted that she made it whilst growing up in Queensland.
