Famed actress Miriam Margolyes, known for roles in Harry Potter and Blackadder among others, has a reputation for going against the grain.
She’s outspoken, committed to her own path, and much loved for scarcely giving a damn what people think of her. In terms of a personal brand, she’s somewhere between everyone’s favourite nan and Charlie from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Whilst promoting The Little Book of Miriam, Margolyes appeared on This Morning with Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley, and her true-to-form behaviour drew a bit of backlash.
The camera first cuts to Margolyes eating a radish, with a peeled onion waiting on her plate.

Famously, Margolyes was filmed discussing whether she would rather eat a radish or have sex, to which she opined: “If it was good sex, then I’d rather have sex. But, if it were bad sex, I’d rather have a radish.”
At any rate, Margolyes seems to be eating a lot of radishes, and she's no stranger to even stronger flavours.
Midway through the interview, during which she covers everything from bowel movements to Queen Camilla, she takes a hefty crunch out of the onion, much to the horror of some viewers.
One X user described the interview as ‘utterly vulgar’, while a YouTube comment opined: “Her act all a bit boring now, same old, same old! And was eating an onion on tv necessary?”

Another said: “No manners. Eating during the interview. And always fame hungry! And those horrible stories.”
“I didn’t put the TV on to see Miriam Margolyes talking with her mouth full about poo tests,” commented another X user.
While she comes on a little strong for some tastes, plenty of her fans enjoyed the appearance.
“I am so glad that I watched this,” said one YouTube comment. “Miriam is hilarious and she had me in stitches! I love how casual she is and her eating while talking about poo made me smile harder.”
“She always makes me laugh,” added another fan. “I think she’s lovely and hilarious! Imagine being her lodgers. I would love that”
“I really admire this lady - what resilience- you GO Miriam!” exclaimed another.
“I’m bothered that she hasn’t been honoured a damehood yet,” noted another comment, while another shared: “She's just authentic herself and natural. I think she’s a real character and fun."
Sure, watching someone take a bite out of a raw onion is enough to make many of us wince, but you have to admire the bottle.
