In Italy, ‘food is never just food’, according to Stanley Tucci, whose ancestral roots trace back to the town of Marzi in the Calabria region in Southern Italy.

In the second outing of Tucci in Italy, the Academy Award-nominated star is set to explore how ‘the past continues to shape the present, one region and one extraordinary meal at a time’

The lesser-known destination isn’t as much of a honeypot as Naples is - where Tucci will celebrate a once-forgotten vine grape - but still features some of the best off-the-beaten-track Italian delicacies.
Authentic dishes include moscioli (wild mussels), Vincisgrassi, which is a pasta dish similar to lasagna, and a variety of Italian salume known as Ciauscolo.
Outside of Le Marche, the American-Italian will stop off in Veneto to learn about the origins of tiramisu and the island of Sardinia to investigate Blue Zones and the relationship between food and longevity.

The SALT Productions and BBC Studios-produced programme will also see Tucci heading to Sicily to explore how history has shaped its cuisine.
“This season, we explore how the past continues to shape the present, one region and one extraordinary meal at a time,” the star explained.
“I’m so pleased to share these captivating stories and these wonderful people with you.”
