'Absolutely disgusting' Glastonbury drinks prices spark huge debate

Many people are fuming over the drinks prices, but are they really that bad?

Worthy Farm has opened its gates again for happy campers to soak up the best of the global music scene this weekend, with headliners The 1975, Neil Young, and Olivia Rodrigo topping the star-studded bill.

But anyone who's been to Glastonbury Festival before will know it's not just about the lineup.

From talks, workshops theatre performances to sunbathing on the hill alongside the iconic sign, there's always plenty people can get themselves stuck into.

Most people find the magic just comes from hanging out with loved ones and having a good time - and for many, that might mean doing so with a nice, cold cider in your hand.

But drinks prices at Glastonbury are often a hotly-debated topic, especially given punters will have splashed out nearly £400 on a ticket this year.

After photos of the drinks list began to emerge on social media, it seems there

“Wow, that's expensive," one person commented on the Glastonbury Tips Facebook page.

Another said in shock: “Jesus Christ."

A third argued the prices were 'absolutely disgusting', while a fourth fumed: "Robbing b*****ds."

But there are arguably quite a few factors that these critics haven't considered, with many others countering the point.

After all, at around £7 a pint and £7.95 for a medium wine, they really don't compare badly to prices in a bar or pub these days - yes, that one may be a justifiable frustration in its own right, but let's save that debate for another day...

Festivals and events are known for hiking prices significantly to make the most out of a captive audience, but if compared to competitors on the scene, Glastonbury actually seems to fare pretty well.

“Beer prices are alright pay more than that a pint at the rugby stadium," one offered, with another agreeing: “There bloody good prices it's £6 a pint now in pubs all over the place."

Building out the argument further, a third wrote: “When you look at prices - think more broadly, compare it to the price of pint in a pub or stadium etc, then bear in mind they'd have to pay the ground rent to the festival, pay the brewery and the engineers and marquee people and transport for the staff, licencing and safety. All the infrastructure to make a pub, to be literal, from nowhere in a field. Then is £6.50/£6.95 really so much for a pint?”

And, of course, if you really don't like the prices, you do have a very obvious solution on your hands.

“THE beauty of Glastonbury - can take your own and no off limits, so can go in the bars with your own if you want," one fan explained.

"Appreciate may not be cold BUT dont have to spend if dont want to. None of this ‘cannot bring your own food and drink’ malarkey!!”
